Feeling is a mere function
With the contemplation of feeling, one realizes that one has no control over the feelings that may
arise. We have no control over many of our experiences. What we see, hear etc. Therefore, with
each experience the feeling that arises is also beyond our control. If we had, there would never
be any unpleasant feeling, there would be only pleasant feeling. Beings are constantly striving
to experience only pleasant feelings but never realizing it. This is the nature of the world. We
have no control, also because there is no Controller. The function of feeling merely arises with
cause. there is also a cognising function of it. That is all. This is the meaning of anatta
(not-self). There is feeling, a cognising of feeling and a reaction to the function of feeling.
That is all. Ignorance and clinging imposes a personality onto it, and thus wrong view is born.
This is because clinging is seen as self, as myself. But it is actually an inherent tendency to
conceiving. One must experience the cessation of conceiving and clinging, the non-arising of it,
to realize the truth of this. Until then, there will always be doubt.
