CONDITIONAL ARISING OF THE PERCEPTION OF BODY
| With the coming together of all these functions, a form,
in this case the breath, will arise. As long as one perceives some form of hardness,
solidity or weight, some form of movement, some form of wateriness, or some form of heat
(either warmth or coolness) there will arise with it, the perception of body. In the same
way, if one does not perceive any form of hardness or solidity or weight, nor any form of
wind or movement, nor any form of wateriness, nor any form of heat, at that time you will
perceive no body whatever. You will feel as if you are in space. Without a body. The
meditator is bound to experience this in one's practice. What has merely happened is that
the four elements have not come together, not arisen and have not been cognised. What does
this mean? It means that body arises conditionally. Knowledge of
