Knowledges What is meant by knowing the law? This means he knows the five precepts which I earlier mentioned. All laws that society passes should be tested from the standpoint of the five precepts. If a law fails that test, such laws should be rejected. All laws should emanate from these five precepts. You may find laws in numerous fields, numerous institutions, all those laws should pass this test and should adhere to this standpoint. Then the framing of laws does not become so complicated either. He knows the people. This means he knows the people that he has influence over. Then he knows what it is beneficial to those people. By knowing what is beneficial he knows what strategies to adopt, in order to achieve his objectives, in order to overcome the obstacles, in order to fulfil his aspirations. And he knows the right measure to pass on, not too much, not too little. And he also knows the right time because there is a time for all things. |
